Collectibles

ICYMI Mondays: Jan. 31

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of waking up on a Monday and realizing you missed out on some incredible drops over the weekend.

It can be truly disheartening to find out that an awesome project launched, minted and sold out all while you were tied up with a wedding, camping trip, or multiday metaverse bender.

Don’t go FOMOing into anything just yet though, because every Monday, we’re bringing you a roundup of the art, collectibles, airdrops and more you missed while you were away.

Justin Bieber Apes Into NFTs

Justin Bieber finally joined the NFT space over the weekend with a few influential buys. Starting out with a massive BAYC purchase, Bieber acquired Bored Ape #3001 for 500 ETH ($1,310,125). The superstar then went on to snag Doodle #8426 for 13 ETH ($33,470).

Aku Chapter IX

Over the past year, Aku has undoubtedly become one of the most lovable characters in all of NFTs. As the main focus of a 10-chapter series created by Micah Johnson, Aku has gone on a fantastic series of adventures throughout 2021, with his story soon coming to a close in 2022.

On Sunday, “Aku Chapter IX: The Mission” was released as an open edition via Nifty Gateway. Priced at $999 each, the collection sold a total of 1,623 editions, exemplifying the vibrant community surrounding Johnson’s coveted character.

CLONE X Pump

Towards the end of last week, RTFKT — creators of the popular CLONE X project — released a barrage of Tweets hinting at something to come. Although the digital wearables powerhouse simply announced that they would be making an announcement in the next week or so, that didn’t stop the collection from experiencing a massive rise in secondary sales.

Prior to the announcement, the CLONE X floor was consistently sitting around 6 – 7 ETH. But over the weekend RTFKT continued their cryptic Tweetstorm, which caused the floor to skyrocket to a whopping 18 ETH.= by Monday morning. Considering the news of Nike acquiring the company initiated a similar pump back in December, it seems collectors aren’t taking any chances on the potential impact of RTFKTs forthcoming announcement.

BAPE Teases Forthcoming NFT Project

A Bathing Ape (BAPE) made a splash over the weekend by teasing its entrance into the NFT ecosystem. Taking to social media, the influential streetwear brand dropped a single, cryptic image of linking to a new account and website for what they’re calling the (B)APETAVERSE. Billed as BAPE’s very own NFT community, the brand is gearing up for what will likely be a large-scale PFP project complete with membership benefits.
