Let’s face it: The NFT space moves really fast. Considering how quickly things can change in the metaverse, a week in NFTs might as well be a month IRL.
Don’t get us wrong — the more people onboarded into the space, the merrier. But because of the constant influx of great art and ideas, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to keep up with all the news, launches, and general happenings.
Well, you can put the days of endless Twitter and Discord scrolling behind you as we put together a weekly list of upcoming NFT drops you definitely don’t want to miss. Here’s what to look out for this week.
SlyCrocs x DraftKings
Who: SupDucks x DraftKings
What: 2,500 sly croc PFP NFTs
When: October 11, time TBA
Where: DraftKings
Why: The first-ever PFP drop on the DraftKings Marketplace is here: SlyCrocs. Created by Franky Nines, these Crocs “migrated from the Florida depths and showed up on the LA boardwalk.” Owning a SlyCroc will unlock chances to win DraftKings Dollars, free DraftKings Reignmaker packs, as well as entries to rolling contests and competitions hosted by DraftKings. With SupDucks and DraftKings’ partnership, the famed sports betting and fantasy sports website has further dipped its toes into Web3.
Elements of Self
What: Four one-of-one 3D animated NFTs
When: October 11 @ 6:30 p.m. ET
Where: MakersPlace
Why: Fans of artist William Willoughby III and his blend of surrealist and futurist themes with high-level 3D artistry are in for a treat this Halloween season. Elements of Self is a collection of animated skulls that vividly depict common inner conflicts that we experience during this journey we call life.
Amazônia
Who: Sebastião Salgado
What: A one-of-one film NFT and 5,000 unique photo NFTs
When: October 12 @ 5:00 a.m. ET
Where: Sotheby’s
Why: The Amazônia Collection marks the culmination of a decade of photographer Salgado’s work. Containing 5,000 unique photo NFTs depicting the photographer’s travels throughout the Amazon, the sheer volume of work Salgado created during the past decade necessitated a five-month curation period. In line with Salgado’s strong support of environmental conservation, this collection will proudly call the newly-merged Ethereum blockchain its home when it launches later this week.
Venus Beach
Who: Pol Kurucz
What: Collection mechanics TBA
When: October 12 @ 6:30 p.m. ET
Where: MakersPlace
Why: Multimedia artist Pol Kurucz is set to make another addition to his growing portfolio of works featuring his singular high-camp aesthetic. Venus Beach, his genesis drop on MakersPlace, depicts scenes with real-life models thriving in strange, alien worlds.
Jackie Rex
Who: Sarah Zucker
What: Three multi-edition VideoPainting triptychs
When: October 12 @ 6:30 p.m. ET
Where: Nifty Gateway
Why: In a bid to communicate divine thematic content with her distinct visual style, Sarah Zucker has created Jackie Rex. The series of multi-edition VideoPainting NFTs carry Zucker’s signature flair — much reminiscent of Ringo Starr’s work on MS Paint from the early 2000s. To achieve this unique look, Zucker used a vintage Sony video painter and a combination of digital and analog processing to further age the images.
Floating Fragments
Who: San Holo
What: A generative NFT vinyl collection
When: October 15, time TBA
Where: sound.xyz
Why: With San Holo’s next drop, one of electronic music’s biggest names is slated to further tighten the bond between the visual and sonic realms of NFTs. Each Floating Fragment, which contains bits of music (and is a piece of generative art in itself) is set to enable holders to claim physical collectibles to go with this digital release. Should a holder piece together an entire San Holo track with their fragments, they will be eligible to redeem a limited edition San Holo X SoundMint vinyl.
